In a world where 60% of the global population is actively engaged in the workplace, taking action to protect and support mental health in the workplace is more important than ever. In recognition of this, World Mental Health Day, observed on 10th October, focused on the theme of mental health at work, highlighting the need for workplaces to foster environments that support the emotional well-being of their employees. Embracing this global initiative, Confiz took a proactive approach to prioritizing mental health in the workplace by organizing a neurographic art therapy workshop. This hands-on activity offered our people a creative outlet to reduce stress, enhance emotional well-being, and promote mindfulness.
At Confiz, we understand the critical importance of mental well-being in fostering a thriving workforce, particularly in today’s challenging economic climate. Beyond financial pressures, creating a safe and healthy work environment is a key driver for individual growth and the collective progress of society, ensuring overall health and productivity. Factors like stigma, discrimination, harassment, and unhealthy working conditions can negatively impact mental health, leading to decreased productivity. To foster a healthier and more supportive workplace, we took this unorthodox approach to mental wellness with Maha Qureshi, an Assistant Professor of Visual Communication at COMSATS University and a staunch advocate of using art as a form of meditative therapy.
This interactive workshop, which required zero artistic expertise and was open to all, provided a judgment-free space where everyone could express themselves through art while collaborating with others. As the participants drew lines and shapes, they gradually entered a relaxed state of mind, experiencing a sense of calm and comforting relief. That’s the effect of Neurographic art! Rooted in mindfulness and self-awareness, it enables you to channel pain, stress, anxiety, depression, and other challenges into something beautiful, fostering emotional release and a peaceful state of mind.
In addition to guiding participants through art therapy, Maha also introduced the audience to the science of color therapy, explaining how various colors can impact moods and emotions. This added another layer of insight into the power of creative expression, helping attendees understand how both form and color can be used as tools for self-awareness and mental well-being.
Neuro art therapy was selected as an activity to give our team a break from work while learning a new skill for psychological health, which they can enjoy on their own or with friends and family. This workshop also reinforced our core values, innovatively bringing the company’s mission to life. Cross-departmental interaction fostered collaboration, as team members shared art supplies and connected casually. The unique artworks sparked empathy, allowing colleagues to appreciate each other’s creativity. The participants took full ownership of their art pieces, while resource efficiency was emphasized through shared materials and lean management. The session also encouraged a bias for action, with participants taking the initiative to complete their work, and promoted continuous learning by introducing a new skill that inspired self-reflection and mindfulness.
A special thanks to Maha Qureshi for her insightful approach and expert guidance throughout the workshop. At Confiz, we are committed to cultivating a healthy and supportive work environment and will continue to prioritize mental health initiatives that promote a productive, emotionally balanced workforce. Together, let’s ensure that mental wellness thrives!
